Access to Justice Capacity Building Workshop:
An Introduction to Environmental Law
Co-hosted with the uOttawa-Ecojustice Environmental Law Clinic
This session provided and overview of the basics of environmental law in Canada, focussing on empowering ENGOs to access the justice system and participate in law reform. We shared case studies from Ecojustice’s work, and discussed a hypothetical fact scenario to help illustrate how communities might approach environmental issues using legal tools. We also discussed the benefits and drawbacks of different approaches, from participation in public processes to initiating court proceedings.
